The Apostles Creed: The Holy Catholic Church, The Communion of the Saints

Matthew 16:15-20

I BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER ALMIGHTY,

maker of heaven and earth,

AND IN JESUS CHRIST, GOD’S ONLY SON, OUR LORD:

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into hell.

On the third day he arose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven and is seated

at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

And the life everlasting.

AMEN.

Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

Why do we need to gather with the Saints and go to Church?

I. God’s Presence

Exodus 25:8-9 And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it.

Exodus 25:22 and there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the testimony, about everything which I will give you in commandment to the children of Israel.

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.

Exodus 33:15-16 Then he said to Him, if your presencedoes not go with us, do not bring us up from here.

II. God’s Power

Matthew 18:19-20 Again, I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there I the midst of them.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will life up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up.

Psalms 92:13-14 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing

III. God’s People

1 Peter 2:10 who once were not a people but are but are now the people of God, who had obtained mercy but now obtained mercy.

Romans 9:25 as He says in Hosea: I will call them My people, who were not My people, and her beloved, who was not My beloved.

1 Corinthians 14:26 How is it then? Brethren? Wheneveryou come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

1 Peter 2:5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
